What Pawtio is
Pawtio is a pet health tracker. Its core job is to help you capture what happens at your pet's vet visits โ by recording and transcribing the conversation โ and turn that into a clear, organized summary you can refer back to. Pawtio organizes what your vet says; your vet makes the calls. Pawtio is not a diagnostic tool and does not provide veterinary advice.
Information we collect
Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and a password (or, if you sign in with Apple or Google once that's enabled, the identity information those providers share with us). We use this to authenticate you and secure your account.
Pet profile information. Information you enter about your pet: name, species, breed, existing conditions, allergies, insurance details, weight history, and your primary vet's contact information.
Visit information. When you record a vet visit:
- Audio. Your recording is transcribed entirely on your device โ the audio itself never leaves your device to reach our servers. If you choose to keep the recording (the default, changeable per-visit or as a default preference in Settings), it's stored locally on your device only, so you can play it back later. We never receive or store your audio.
- Transcript text. Only the text transcript of your recording is sent to our servers, so it can be summarized.
- AI-generated summary. The transcript is sent to Google's Gemini API (via our own server, not directly from your device) to generate a structured summary โ diagnosis, medications, follow-ups, watch-for items. This summary, and the transcript it was built from, are stored in our database, tied to your account.
- Medications, lab results, vaccines, and appointments you add or that get extracted from a visit summary, including any lab report files/images you upload.
- Visit cost you optionally enter, and any pre-visit questions you write for your vet.
What we don't collect. We don't use analytics or crash-reporting SDKs, ad-tracking libraries, or location tracking. We don't access your contacts, photos beyond what you explicitly attach (e.g. a lab report), or any device data beyond what's needed to run the app.
How we use your information
We use your information to: run the app's core features (organizing your pet's records, generating visit summaries, tracking medications/labs/vaccines, reminders); secure your account; and respond to you if you contact support. We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Who we share information with
We use a small number of service providers to run Pawtio. We don't sell your data to anyone, and we don't share it for their own marketing purposes.
- Supabase โ our database, authentication, and file storage provider. Your account data, pet records, visit summaries, and any uploaded lab files are stored on Supabase's infrastructure.
- Google (Gemini API) โ receives the text transcript of a visit (not audio) to generate the structured summary. Google's use of this data is governed by their own API terms.
- Apple โ if you use Sign in with Apple, or when Apple's App Store/TestFlight infrastructure delivers and updates the app on your device.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Pawtio, our users, or others.
Data retention and your choices
- Audio: kept on your device only (never on our servers) until you delete it โ either per-recording or by turning off the "keep recordings" default in Settings. Deleting a recording removes it from your device permanently.
- Account data export: you can export a full copy of your data (pets, visits, medications, labs, vaccines, appointments) as a file from Settings at any time.
- Account deletion: you can delete your account from Settings. This permanently deletes your account and all associated pet and visit data from our servers, including uploaded lab files. This cannot be undone.
Security
Your data is protected by database-level access rules that ensure only you (or another authorized account holder for a shared pet) can read or write your pet's records. All network traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted (HTTPS/TLS). Your login session is stored securely using your device's built-in secure storage (iOS Keychain).
Children's privacy
Pawtio is not directed at, and we do not knowingly collect information from, children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and, for significant changes, notify you in the app.
